Welcome: Jason rang the bell calling the meeting to order.

Pledge, Song, Prayer, Eat: 

Introduction of Guests:  Mic Platte and the Key Club officers Connor Sullivan, Jake Owens, Christina, Erica, and Sean Hopkins.  Sorry I didn’t get a couple of the last names.  We all look forward to a great Key Club year; Steve Clark, guest of Don Elliott; Ambra Kant, guest of Matt Burns

Birthdays: Terry Parisher, Fred Kimsey, Mac McCrane, Paul Michael all on the 1st and Earl Dashiell  Best wishes to everyone!

Anniversaries:  Earl Dashiell #28.  Congratulations!

50/50:  11 cards, $1416, Cyndi Yakshe picked the 9 of spades and the pot lives on. Odds are improving and the pot is growing!

Happy Dollars:  Bob Jacobson as a proud grandfather, Jack Moran for Restore America rally

Announcements: 

·         Hank presented Cyndi Yakshe a check for winning the Ducky Derby at the District Convention.

·         We had several very successful events this past week

o   Fed over 240 kids and parents at Library Reading Program Picnic.  See last weeks Kapsule for list of participants.  Thanks to all for making it such a great success

o   Boys and Girls Club End of Summer Picnic-we met lots of BAG volunteers and established some relationships we hope will turn into cooperative events in support of our youth.  Thanks to Dennis Philippi for being our point man.

o   Steak cookout was a huge success.  Many, many thanks to George and Peggy Hawes and the social committee crew.

o   We approved next year’s budget at last night’s Board Meeting.  You will hear more about it in the weeks to come.

·         Mark your calendar: Change of Command is scheduled for 2 Oct at the Poquoson Yacht Club.  Cocktails start at 6PM, dinner and installation of officers at 7PM. You don’t want miss seeing Walt hand over the reins to Phil Prisco.

·         BBQ Committee meets Wed, 1 Sep, 1900 at Anna’s.

·         Don’t forget we’re putting up flags on Labor Day and 11 Sep.  Chip Petre can always use some help.

·         Red Cross has invited us to a breakfast fund-raiser and thank you event 8 Sep, 0730 at Point Plaza Hotel.  Since we contribute to the Red Cross, we have free seats so don’t miss this opportunity for a free meal.  If interested either sign up or contact Tom Meree.

·         Club Satellite meets 16 Sep, 7PM at Anna’s.  Don’t forget to invite a teacher!!!

·         Tim Howard circulated a sign-up sheet for Donk’s on Sat, 18 Sep.  Don’t miss this fun evening of fellowship and entertainment.  Club Satelliter’s, please contact Tim direct at baccorow@verizon.net if interested.

·         Cornell announced the BBQ Committee will meet 1 Sep at Anna’s, 7PM.

·         Jack Moran is once again selling the coupon books.  They have great savings and make excellent gifts and we make a little money as well. 

·         The Board approved check for $250 in support of a Fellowship of Christian Athlete sponsored expert on drug, alcohol, bullying and gang activity among our youth.  The Poquoson school system has funded a first assembly for the entire school and the local FCA needed some help to fund a second assembly for student athletes.  In addition to the check, we passed the hat and collected an additional $150 and the Key Club committed another $100.  Awesome!  The assemblies are scheduled for Sept 21st at PHS.  The first one is from 1-2PM and the second is still being worked.  You are welcome to attend, just be sure to check in and get a visitor pass at the office.

·         Program:  Walt introduced Jack Fishman who introduced former NASA engineer Dr. Pat McCormick who treated us to an overview of the PhD program at Hampton University and the many experiments he conducted over the years.  He also shared some details on his LIDAR (think radar using lasers) efforts and their impact on weather tracking and forecasting.

·         Adjourn:  Jason rang the bell to adjourn the meeting and Walt wished everyone a great week and prayers that Earl stays out to the east.
